DEIF Generator & Power Management Systems

DEIF equipment sits in the engine room of almost every modern vessel, and it is one of the places where the difference between 'it runs' and 'it runs correctly' hides in parameters nobody has looked at since commissioning.

We work across the full range: generator controllers, protection relays, synchronizers, load sharers and complete PMS applications — on new installations, on retrofits of older switchboards, and on urgent call-outs where a vessel has lost a generator.

Scope of work

  • Installation and replacement of DEIF generator controllers in main and emergency switchboards
  • Protection parameter setup: overcurrent, reverse power, over/under voltage and frequency, unbalance
  • Synchronizing setup — dead-bus, phase matching, breaker closing-time compensation
  • kW / kVAr load-sharing setup between dissimilar gen-sets
  • PMS logic configuration: auto start/stop, priority, heavy-consumer request, load shedding
  • Replacement of obsolete legacy units with current series, reusing existing wiring where possible
  • Reading and interpreting event and alarm logs after an incident

Typical symptoms & failures

  • The gen-set will not close its breaker, or closes out of phase with an audible thump
  • Reverse-power trip on every attempt to parallel or unload
  • One generator takes the whole load while the other drifts into reverse power
  • Unstable kVAr sharing and circulating currents between machines
  • A controller stuck in permanent alarm or block with no obvious cause
  • Lost parameter password — nobody can get into the unit

What you receive

  • Complete parameter file, exported and handed over
  • Paralleling and load-sharing test protocol against real load
  • Protection settings recorded in a table for the technical department
  • Updated single-line diagram if topology changed

Equipment & protocols

  • DEIF Automatic Gen-set Controllers (AGC series)
  • DEIF Multi-line 2 protection and control units
  • DEIF Paralleling & Protection Units, Gen-set Protection Units
  • Display units, Loadsharers and synchronizing equipment
  • Unit communication over CAN bus and Modbus to AMS/SCADA

Frequently asked questions

Do you only work on DEIF?

No. DEIF is the most common on the vessels we serve, but generator-control and PMS logic is shared across manufacturers. We support other makes as well.

My unit is obsolete and no longer supported. What now?

We map what it does today, propose the current equivalent, and where feasible keep the existing wiring and CT/VT so the job stays inside a port stay.

Can you change protection settings while trading?

Protection settings are changed only with documentation and in agreement with the technical department and, where required, class. We do not weaken protections to make an alarm go away.
